Similes and Metaphors

Similies are comparisons fo two very different things, an example would be "She didn't speak directly to Jess, but she gave him a look with those blue eyes of hers that made him zing like one of the strings she was strumming." Metaphors are comparisons that describe something as if it were actually something else. An example would be " How could he explain it in a way Leslie would understand, how he yearned to reach out and capture the quivering life around him and how when he tried, it slipped past his fingertips, leaving a dry fossil upon the page?"
